Robert Cormier was originally a ship carpenter in LaRochelle, France On January 8, 1644, he, his wife, Marie Péraud, and son, Thomas, contracted to sail from France on the ship, Le Petit Saint Pierre, to go to work at Fort Sant Pierre on Cape Breton Island under the order of Sieur Louis Tuffet, with the promised remuneration ofr 12 "livres" per year (not equivalent to English pounds sterling).
Thomas married Marie Madeline Girouard.
