from Acadian Footprints Gerald Doucet p 326-7

"Paul-Marie Doucet, the son of Jean Doucet and Madeleine Therialt, along with one of their sons, Simon, appear to have been the first Doucets to come to Cape Briton, and specifically to the Grand Etang-Cheticamp area in the mid seventeen- eighty's. Paul-Marie was accompanied by his wife Felicite. He was then in his late thirties. Unlike some of his children (including my great, great, great grandfather Simon), Paul-Marie and Felicite Michel did not remain there. Instead, they moved on to the Margarees. There is considerable intrigue about Paul-Marie and an accompanying number of unanswered questions. At the outset of the Deportation in 1755, he was only nine years old. It is believed that throughout the ensuing seven to eight years, he managed to avoid deportation. How did he do this? No conclusive answers can be found. One can speculate that the Mi'kmaq him (and his parents?) hid in the forests. We do not know what happened to his parents; some claim that they were deported to Southampton, England, from the Beaubassins (present day Sackvill-Amherst area) along with some other members of their family but there is no evidence showing that this occurred except for Paul-Marie's brother, Pierre.

As to Paul-Marie's death, the facts are equally elusive and there is no evidence available on it. It is believed by some that he died at the age of ninety-two, at Margaree, and a date even exists, namely February 21, 1824, but I have found no proof of it, inclusive of any indication in any cemetary in the Margarees The relevant 1809 census shows no mention of his wife Felicite Michel; therefore one assumes she was then not living, but equally nothing about her death is known.

And where had been Paul-Marie and Felicite -Michel from 1763 prior to their deaths? Je ne sais pas. Some speculate they were at Ile Saint Jean (Prince Edward Island) and/or the present day Miramichi area of New Brunswick. Paul Marie's brother has on record a sworn declaration made at Belle-Ile-en-Mere to the effect that Paul Marie was at Miramichi, New Brunswick in 1767. Other than that, very little is know about them, except for the very important (to my family!) settlement in the Cheticamp-Grand Etang-Margaree area."
